Overview

Ample China Traditional Percussion (ACTP) presents a traditional Chinese percussion ensemble, covering a wide range from bass to treble, including membrane, wooden, and metal percussion instruments. It includes 19 instrument slots totaling 50 percussion instruments, such as Drum Ensembles, Solo Drums, Gongs, Cymbals, Opera percussion, and Vocals. Each instrument features multiple articulations, velocity layers, and sample round robins.

  • Artistic Director: Jiao Shanlin (Artistic Director of the Gufeng Percussion Ensemble and President of the PAS China Percussion Association)
  • Performers : Zheng Yu and the Gufeng Percussion Ensemble

System Requirements:

  • macOS: macOS 10.15 or later.
  • Windows: Windows 7 through Windows 11, 64-bit.
  • Plugin Formats: VST2, VST3, AU, and AAX, plus the standalone application (Rectangles VST3).
  • Storage: 10 GB or more. An internal SSD is recommended, or an external SSD connected through a high-speed USB interface.
  • CPU: Intel Core i5, AMD Ryzen 5, Apple Silicon M1, or higher.
  • Activation: Activation through the free iLok License Manager software (no hardware dongle required), or with an iLok USB dongle.

Sampling:

  • ACTP features Drum Ensembles, Solo Drums, Pitched Barrel Drums, Small Barrel Drum, Cymbals, Large Gong, Ethnic Drum, Singing Bowl, Temple Bowl, Bells, Shaking Bells, Opera Drum, Temple Block, Wood Block, Large Opera Gong, Small Opera Gong, Opera Cymbals, Rattle Drum, and Vocals ¡ª a total of 19 instrument slots with 50 percussion instruments and 15 GB of samples.
  • Drum Ensembles and Solo Drums include up to 13 articulations: Center, Stick, Rim, Rimshot, Edge-Center, Edge, Muting with Stick, Muting with Hand, Slap, Nails, Roll, Rims Roll, and Expressive Roll. Other instruments such as Large Gong and Cymbals also provide multiple articulations.
  • The Drum Ensemble was recorded with 11 microphones, including Left 1, Left 2, Mid Low, Mid High, Mid Mid, Right 1, Right 2, Overhead, and Room. The drum head and rim were recorded separately, for a total of 22 microphone channels. Other percussion instruments were also recorded with multiple microphones; even the smallest Wood Block was recorded with four microphones.
  • Dual-Layer Mixer: ACTP adopts a dual-layer mixer design. The first layer consists of instrument tracks, with each instrument track containing multiple microphone tracks. This structure accommodates the diversity of Chinese percussion, as a Drum Ensemble and a small Wood Block cannot use the same microphone configuration. However, every percussion instrument uses the same Overhead microphones to maintain tonal consistency across the library.
  • Legato: The legato technology used for Ample Sound wind and bowed instruments has been introduced to traditional percussion. Instruments such as Gongs, Cymbals, Singing Bowls, Temple Bowls, and Bells provide multiple legato expression changes. For example, a Singing Bowl can first be struck and then transitioned through legato into a Sing articulation, produced by continuously rubbing a mallet around the rim.
  • Each percussion instrument provides independent control of its ADSR envelope, pitch, velocity curve, and other parameters.

Riffer 4:

Designed around the way percussion performances combine multiple instruments within a single arrangement. Different percussion instruments and their articulations are integrated into one Riffer while retaining the individual playing logic of each instrument. Single hits, rolls, velocity and dynamic changes, as well as instrument-specific editing and controls, make complex percussion programming more intuitive and efficient.

  • Each instrument slot contains percussion instruments with similar characteristics, sharing the same articulation layout, velocity layers, and sample round-robin structure. When switching between instruments within the same slot, the MIDI does not need to be modified. Even Drum Ensemble and Solo Drum performances can use the same MIDI simply by shifting it by an octave.
  • Easy Articulation Editing: Easily edit fingerings, articulations, legato, expression changes, and other performance details, reducing the need for cumbersome Keyswitch and MIDI CC programming.
  • MIDI CC and Velocity Editors:Display multiple MIDI CC curves simultaneously using different colors and opacity levels. Curve presets allow the corresponding CC curves to be generated instantly with a single click.
  • Full MIDI Input and Output Compatibility:Whether importing external MIDI or exporting Riffer content to MIDI or instrument tracks in the host DAW, playback can remain fully consistent.
  • Extensive Riff Library:Hundreds of brand-new bass riffs to spark creativity and accelerate the workflow.
  • Riffer 4 also provides a range of MIDI editing tools, including Quantize, Swing, Legato, and Monophonic processing.
