The Konghou is a traditional Chinese plucked string instrument with a long history, and depictions of the instrument can be found in ancient artworks such as the Dunhuang murals. It has a broad range and a clear, gentle, and beautiful tone, as well as a harmonic capability rarely found among traditional Chinese instruments. Both hands can freely perform arpeggios and polyphonic harmonies, allowing the Konghou to express delicate, flowing melodies as well as broad, richly layered musical textures.
